Volunteers
Looking to volunteer in 2023? Chebucto Connections is looking for talented volunteers to act as Program Assistants for our afterschool program. The afterschool program runs Monday through Thursday 3:30 to 7pm for the duration of the school year. Volunteers generally select a 1 – 2 hour timeslot to attend each week. Before they start, all volunteers receive training and orientation to equip them with the skills they need to support our youth.
Program Assistants support all aspects of the after school program from set up, to snack preparation, tutoring and mentoring youth, general supervision and much more. Volunteers get first-hand experience learning how to run a youth education program in the non-profit sector, and build valuable skills and work experience.
Volunteers are often post-secondary students and/or individuals who are interested in youth education. However, we strongly encourage community members to lend their skills to supporting the program. We also welcome all sorts of volunteers from backgrounds such as hospitality, food service, EAL or ESL, Arabic speakers, sports and recreation. If you’re interested, get in touch and we’ll find a place for you.
Placement Students
The Pathways program hosts dozens of placement students each and every year coming from a broad range of disciplines and academic backgrounds. We have relationships with NSCC, SMU, Dalhousie, MSVU and other trades and vocational institutes. We have hosted students from Social Service, Child and Youth, Nutrition, Criminology, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Medicine, Education and more.
If you’re interested in pursuing a placement, practicum or service learning with an exciting youth education program, Pathways is an excellent choice. We offer training and orientation and ongoing support to our placement students. Students are supervised by our After School Nutrition & Resource Coordinator who has a wealth of experience supporting university students pursue their goals in gaining workplace experience. Practicums can be experiential or project based, and are generally tailored to the student and the program of origin.
If you are a student seeking a placement, practicum or service learning opportunity, or a placement coordinator, we would love to talk to you about building a partnership. See contact details below.
