Marjorie Willison Literacy Award

Chebucto Connections is pleased to announce the first annual Marjorie Willison Literacy Award, to inspire and support community-based and innovative activities that promote literacy in Spryfield and District. The award, valued at $500 annually, is open to groups and individuals of all ages, who operate or live in Spryfield and District (the area from Armdale to the Pennants, Purcell’s Cove to Williamswood).

The Literacy Award was created in honour of Marjorie’s “dedication and contribution to the Community of Spryfield” as “just one more way that her impact will continue to be felt for many years to come.”

A committee of the Board of Chebucto Connections will review applications for their promotion of literacy, innovation, community orientation, inclusiveness, and implementation.

A wide variety of individuals and groups have contributed funds to the Literacy Award, to ensure its longevity in supporting community-based literacy. Chebucto Connections hosts the Pathways to Education program in Spryfield, which is helping students from grades 9 through 12 to graduate from high school. Chebucto Connections is also involved in a variety of literacy activities through the Spryfield Area Family Support Task Force, including Book Buddies, Tote Tales, and the annual Spryfield Book Bonanza.
